Something for Everyone

18 Hole Donald Ross Course

1

Hole 1 Par 4, 360yards

Dogleg left with a blind landing area off the tee.  The fairway is guarded by bunkers right and left, with OB along the left side all the way to the green.

The green is bigger than most greens on the course, and is well bunkered right and left.

2

Hole 2 Par 4, 350yards

Prevailing headwind.  A large fairway bunker on the left and trees on the right guard the ideal landing area.  Watch out for the gullies at 150 and 250 yards off the tee.  A narrow, deep green has bunkers left and right.

3

Hole 3 - Par 5, 475yards

Prevailing tailwind. A sharp dogleg left with a large cotton-wood tree at the corner of the dogleg. Getting home in two will require a long iron or fairway wood. The green is long and narrow, with two bunkers left and mounds right.

4

Hole 4 - Par 4, 375yards

Prevailing headwind. The drive must carry 220 yards to clear a deep gully. The second shot will be a mid- to short-iron into a green that slopes back to front with bunkers right and long.

5

Hole 5 - Par 3, 180yards

Prevailing wind is left to right. The hole plays slightly uphill, and the green is gently sloped with bunkers right and left.

6

Hole 6 - Par 4, 345

Prevailing wind is left to right. A long iron or fairway wood off the tee leaves a mid- to short-iron for the downhill second shot. The green is small and slopes gently back to front. This is one of the three holes on the course that has no greenside bunkers.

7

Hole 7 - Par 3, 220yards

Prevailing wind is left to right. This hole is well guarded by trees on both sides. The green is fairly large and gently tiered. The 7th hole starts what the members call "amen corner", the six middle holes at Shawnee Country Club.

8

Hole 8 - Par 5, 510yards

Prevailing wind is right to left. This fairway is guarded by OB right and trees all along the left side. The player must hit two straight shots to have a chance at the birdie. The approach will be a mid- to short-iron. The green is deep and well bunkered, and is mounded through the center.

9

Hole 9 - Par 4, 450yards

Prevailing tailwind. A dogleg right guarded by dense trees at the corner. The tee shot on this hole demands a fade at the corner to give the player a long iron or fairway wood on the approach. The green is very small and slopes back to front. A very challenging hole.

10

Hole 10 - Par 4, 390yards

Prevailing headwind. A dogleg right, slightly downhill. This hole requires a fading tee shot that leaves a short- to mid-iron approach. It is well bunkered left and right.

11

Hole 11 - Par 4, 455yards

Prevailing wind is left to right on approach. Severe dogleg left with cottonwood trees protecting the corner. The tee on this hole will require a draw off the tee. The approach will be 180-210 yards to a small, sloping green with bunkers left and right. This hole is rated as one of the toughest holes in Kansas.

12

Hole 12 - Par 4, 411yards

Uphill, into a prevailing headwind. Though straight, the hole requires players to keep the ball in the fairway off the tee. Oak trees guard on the right and left to within 100 yards of the green. A drive of less than 250 yards leaves a blind second shot into a very small, severely sloping green.

13

Hole 13 - Par 3, 135yards

Prevailing tailwind. This hole plays slightly uphill to a green with bunkers left and right. A good birdie opportunity, this par 3 gives up the most hole-in-one at Shawnee Country Club.

14

Hole 14 - Par 5, 535yards "Long Tom"

Prevailing tailwind. The tee shot is downhill with OB left and trees on the right. The approach plays to an elevated green that is bunkered on the right and slopes down severely on the left and in the back.

15

Hole 15 - Par 4, 380yards

Prevailing headwind. A slight dogleg left, well-guarded by trees at the corner. The ideal drive will be a draw, leaving a short iron to an elevated green. The green slopes severely back to front and is bunkered left and right.

16

Hole 16 - Par 4, 385yards

Prevailing tailwind. A dogleg left, protected by a deep gully just beyond the landing area. The slightly uphill approach will be with a short- to mid-iron. The green has bunkers in the front and trees behind, and slopes back to front.

17

Hole 17 - Par 3, 170yards

Prevailing wind is right to left. The hole plays downhill and is well protected by trees on the right. The green is large and tiered, with bunkers front and left, making an accurate tee shot essential.

18

Hole 18 - Par 4, 315yards

Prevailing headwind. Players start with several options, fairway plays downhill and uphill to an elevated green. Bunkers left, right, and front. The most severely sloped on the course, this hole was designed as a match play tie-breaker, as it pays dividends to the player with the best approach.
